Tempting Fates was devised and developed by Frank Prendergast
and Sarah Olley (The Secret of Eel Island, Moon Daisy).
It was written by Frank, Sarah and Jason Arnopp (Panik,
Blood Red Sky, The Sarah Jane Adventures).
Sarah produced, Frank directed and Charlie Gauvain was executive
producer for Red Eye Pictures, the drama production arm of
Eye Film and Television.
Tempting Fates was made as part of a training scheme.
It is essentially a series about students, for a student audience,
with the majority of the production team and cast made up of post
graduate students and current undergraduate students.
The writing process involved workshops with the MA Scriptwriting
Course at the University of East Anglia whilst a majority of the
filming took place at Norwich City College (pictured above) as
well as at Epic Studios in Norwich and in various locations in Lowestoft.
Most of the filming was done by the actors themselves using
mini HDV cameras and scenes were choreographed by the director
and then filmed as single continuous takes.
Each of the four main protagonists had their own camera so
the only time scenes were edited was when a camera point-of-view changed.
Tempting Fates is one of the first fully student-oriented drama s
eries to be produced in the UK, involving students in every step of
the show’s production as well as aiming to integrate them in the
launch and interactivity of the series.
Tempting Fates aims to make the show a fully interactive online
experience for 14-25 year olds through online blogging and video-blogging,
twitter and facebook support.
There are also several competitions to be involved in including
writing the second series and producing viral video content to
promote the series.
The series is supported by NaSTA (The National Student Television Association)
and will be aired not only on Eye Film’s Youtube channel and right
here on the official site but also on SX:TV (Essex University Student Televisoin),
RU:ON (Reading University TV), Demon TV (DeMontfort University TV),
CTN (University College Dublin TV) and LUTube (University of Leeds TV).
The show will also be aired on the student TV service Freewire.
